Your home from home in Italy’s ‘green heart’, Villa Magnifico is a peaceful retreat swathed in the glorious Umbrian countryside and whose perfect seclusion belies its proximity to the many attractions of the surrounding area.
Tucked away among mature olive groves and with sweeping views of Umbria’s medieval hill towns of Spello, Assisi and Montefalco and the plains of Bevagna, the apricot-coloured split-level villa is built in the traditional style with graceful pillars and a gently sloping roof. Modern and light, its generous dimensions lend themselves to larger groups, who’ll enjoy the abundant spaces to come together in. The villa’s ambience is also cosy enough to accommodate smaller groups, who can kick back together in the vast living spaces and grounds to appreciate a truly relaxing break.
The highlights of the indoor space include a large dining room for 12 guests, a basement with space enough for 30 diners, and a sauna for six. There’s also a spacious gym, games and billiards room to keep all ages entertained once the sun has gone down. Outdoors, a mini-playground and swimming pool with lounging terrace provide opportunities for fun under the Umbrian sun. The enthusiastic chef, meanwhile, will love getting to work in the huge outdoor kitchen with built-in barbecue, while diners relax with a drink on the raised deck, enjoying the serenity of the property’s well-maintained lawned gardens.
There’s plenty too to explore in the surrounding area. You’re just a short walk from the nearest village, Giano dell'Umbria, where you can play tennis and find bars and restaurants. The villa is also perfectly positioned for wider exploration of the beautiful Umbrian countryside and Perugia’s most famous towns and villages.
The views from this traditional yet modern property extend far into the Umbrian countryside, taking in glimpses of the pretty medieval towns of Assisi, Montefalco and Spello. The nearest village lies just a couple of kilometres away, where you’ll find shops, bars, restaurants and tennis courts, while an even shorter walk from the villa brings you to a charming old Augustinian abbey, originating from the days of Emperor Constantine.
Once you’ve eased off and unwound amid the villa and its grounds, you’ll find it easy to explore some of the region’s larger medieval towns, Bastardo (8 kilometres) and at 10 kilometres, Montefalco, the so-called ‘balcony of Umbria’, whose dramatic hilltop perch is dotted with historic churches and a selection of restaurants hugged by outstanding countryside views. From here, wine lovers can pick up one of the under-the-radar grape trails which those in the know claim to rival those of neighbouring Tuscany. Those who enjoy lazy days, meanwhile, can simply relax and enjoy the slow way of life as they meander the town’s treasures, including the frescoes of its Romanesque and Gothic churches, the 13th-century town hall and the museum, whose collection of art and artefacts are one of Umbria’s most important.
At just 49 kilometres, the region’s historical capital, Perugia, makes for an easy day trip. The small but perfectly formed historic university town is a maze of cobbled streets, arched passageways and wonderful architecture, kept a-buzz by the street cafes, cosmopolitan bars and restaurants, and a summer programme of music and arts events, including a popular jazz festival. Those on an extended break, meanwhile, may even wish to build in a trip to Rome, a 155-kilometre, 2-hour drive from the property.
This comprises a large living room with modern, comfortable furnishings, and a separate sitting and dining area seating up to 12 guests. Located down a corridor are two double bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom and stand-alone shower, a further twin bedroom with en-suite shower room and an air-conditioned master bedroom with en-suite shower room, tub and patio doors leading onto a sun terrace (all bedrooms feature satellite and Sky TV). The kitchen, with American-style fridge freezer, ice machine, coffee machine, deep fat fryer and all other mod cons, has an additional dining area, along with a fireplace and a panoramic balcony with table and chairs.
Here you’ll find a large, cool open-plan living space with a dining area large enough to seat up to 30 guests. Additionally there’s a gym featuring cardio and weight machines, a Canadian sauna for six people, a bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi bath, well-appointed kitchen, a billiard room and a games room with Ping-Pong table.
A large raised decking terrace leads down onto beautifully maintained lawns, a small playground for children, a swimming pool (12m x 6m), sun loungers and a large barbecue area with outdoor kitchen.
